I never showed you the “before” of my office, once I got it all organized.

Envision a curtain in front of the shelving and printer nook.

And a totally chic office chair. I’m thinking a Louis Ghost Chair….a knockoff of course, because who has $400 to spend on an office chair. (I’ll give you a hint: not me!)

I ADORE the vaulted ceiling and all the natural light from the huge window. It’s a pretty cute room if I do say so myself :]

I grabbed some paint swatches this weekend and went back for the samples I liked. I am thinking a creamy color (like the color of the chaise lounge) for most of the the walls, then the behind the chaise a bold raspberry pink or green. We’re gonna put the samples up tonight, so I’ll report back :]

If you say anything about the fingerprints on the mirror I will cut you deep.

I’ve been hittin’ the colorful rooms hard this week, so today I’m toning it down with a more neutral space. Mixing textures like this is a great way to add depth to your home without cluttering it up. Knowing us, the fab minimalist shelf would become the landing spot for our remotes. It’s not my typical style, but I’d definitely spend an evening curled up on that yummy couch with some (spiked) hot cocoa and a good flick. Wanna come with?

Once upon a time I had hopes and dreams. Perhaps unfounded hopes and dreams, but hopes and dreams nonetheless.

They were squashed. The Wal-Mart “velvet” blackout curtains I so bravely ordered turned out to be COMPLETE CRAP. I don’t know what the people who reviewed them were thinking, because they are COMPLETE CRAP. I’d be willing to bet that Wal-Mart filters the reviews. I would just like to emphasize the COMPLETE part of the crap.

They were basically vinyl, with flocking sprayed on them. Don’t know what flocking is? Remember those greeting cards you used to get when you were just a kid with a kitten on it that was a tiny bit fuzzy? That is flocking. THAT IS NOT VELVET.

Oh well, I guess I got what I deserved. I certainly learned MY lesson!

I’m feeling pretty useless, I’ve been sick for a few days and I am SO. BORED. But I’m all fatigued and you know, HEALING and shit so I can’t really do anything. I know you know the feeling. But I decided I could muster up the strength to get one thing done today.

Oh hai. It’s my living room! Remember those glass globes I hung for sexy-swanky-rad candle light? We LOVE them. We have people over about every weekend so we get a lot of chances to use them. It’s definitely a chill place to hang out, everyone loves them. I’m quite proud. You know what I DIDN’T think of, however?

They get dusty… really dusty. Just like everything else in Arizona! Oops. Do you see how filthy they were?! I cannot even begin to explain my dusting woes living in this state, it’s pretty much insanity. I can only imagine how much of it we’re breathing in. I maintain that the desert was never meant to hold life en masse.

But you know it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It definitely helps that I am a very small person (5’1″… yeah bring it.) so my hands fit right inside there, if I am really careful.

So if you were thinking of hanging some, my conclusion: not that hard to clean. I was kind of putting it off because I was afraid, to be honest. They seem pretty fragile but as long as you don’t drop or put a death grip on one, they seem to be sturdy enough!

In other news…

Tango LOVES sleeping in the little cupped edges of the sheepskin. Like her mama (read: me), she loves soft, fuzzy places to sleep. She won’t even SIT on the travertine. I call this the progression of cute:

Einstein doesn’t need a fluffy rug because he already IS a fluffy rug. He desperately needs a haircut, but I love it. Freaking homeless little ragamuffin!

Oh my god did I just write a post about my dogs and shining balls? I claim fever delirium! It’s good to be back :]

OK OK so I’ve been gone! I’m sorry! Please come back? I know I was not really there for you when you needed me most. I’ve been so bad, not giving so much as a phone call or hello… but I still care. Hi guys! Did you have some good holidays? I sure did but now I’m SICK! Shaf and I went to Florida and then Vegas… but got sick in Vegas for New Years Eve. Shitty. But my plants survived our 14 day vacation! My plant experiment (read: keeping them alive) has gone quite well, I thought, until seeing this today:

Erm… hi :] This is a bit embarrassing. I have been MIA! AFK! DOA! And all those other acronyms that mean “srsly slacking on the blogging front” I have been epically busy and epically lazy at the same time. Just when you thought that it wasn’t possible… I somehow pull it off. Well rest assured that I have been doing worthwhile things such as

• Running a LOT in training for the PF Changs Rock and Roll Half Marathon
• Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity
• A big event at work that I was in charge of the design for (which involved being on call 24 hours a day for a week and a half)
• Working vehemently on reupholstering that pesky second chair
• Cooking an entire Thanksgiving meal after on a “morning-of” whim to have it at home after all
• Selling lots of old furniture on craigslist
• Searching for my lost camera
• Spending time with my best friend who was in town from Denver

I’ve been SO BUSY in my non-electronic life, that any second that I had to myself was spent, well, asleep*. I mean I didn’t even make a freaking THANKSGIVING post! I’m pretty sure that’s grounds for immediate termination in the blog world. But somehow… here I am :]

Meet Archibald*. Isn’t he regal? We’re not sure this is where he is going to end up, so he’ll probably move around a bit.

I’ve been wanting him for a long time but with moving in to a new house and everything, I just couldn’t justify spending $70 on a ceramic horse (albeit a FABULOUS one) when we needed… say… a COUCH. And a BED. And to PAINT.

Well what I really mean is that IIIII could justify spending it but I didn’t think that my more logical and level headed husband (whom I love and adore and am forever thankful for keeping me sane and out of debt) would back up that justification.

So I had sort of given up on my dream (besides the haunting wails you could hear coming from our house late at night) until this weekend we found him for $50 at HomeGoods. I couldn’t believe my LUCK! And Shaf liked him too. THE END!

*I’m pretty sure Hallie‘s friend has the same horse and called him Archibald… I am totally biting that name because it’s PERFECT.

In mah little owlie there. I actually separated the one that is in the right red pot above, and put half of it in the owl. Can I tell you that I about had a heart attack ripping the two sections apart? I don’t see how you can destroy a plant like that and still get them to grow afterward. But it seems to have worked.

My ever-so-talented Mother planted this cute little pot for me while she was here, using clippings from the yard and some that a friend brought over. They’re actually planted in a trash can that I had in college. Resourceful! I guess these aren’t all “succulents” as much as they are “cacti” but you get the point. They’re small.

You don’t have to live in the desert to keep succulents. I guess you can grow them in anything. I am not even going to attempt to tell you how to care for them based on the fact that I have only kept plants alive for a whopping 3 months now. But it appears that you have to water them. And give them sunlight. But not too much of either… or they will diiiieeee. That ambiguous enough for you?
